Puffy eyes accompanied by dark circles are an indicator of ill health or extreme lack of sleep. But sometimes, even additional factors like dehydration and allergies can cause it. This is more and more prevalent as one grows older. But it is not uncommon to find this even in younger people when they are not getting enough rest, or they have a bad diet. Habits like smoking and drinking too much only make matters worse!
1. Tomatoes
What you need
– 1 teaspoon tomato juice
– 1 teaspoon lemon juice
What you need to do
– Mix the tomato juice with lemon juice and apply this mixture on the affected area.
– Leave it on for 10 minutes, and wash off with cold water.
How often you need to do this
Repeat twice a day, and follow it for about two to three weeks.
2. Tea bags
What you need
2 green tea bags
What you need to do
– Dip the tea bags in water and place them in the refrigerator for a while.
– Remove the tea bags from the fridge and place them over your eyes for about 15 minutes. Then, wash your face. Your eyes will feel refreshed.
How often you need to do this
Do this daily till you notice considerable improvement.
Why this works
Dark circles are caused due to the dilation of blood vessels under the eyes. Green tea helps in reducing this dilation, thereby curing dark circles. Also, tea contains tannins that have astringent properties – they constrict the blood vessels and capillaries under the eyes, and help reduce dark circles.
3. Cucumber
What you need
1 fresh cucumber
What you need to do
– Cut the cucumber into thick slices and place them in the refrigerator for about 30 minutes.
– Take two slices out of the fridge and place each of them on the eyes, ensuring they completely cover the affected area.
– Leave them on for 10 minutes, and then wash your eyes with cold water.
How often you need to do this
Twice a day for about a week.
Why this works
Cucumber contains a number of antioxidants like vitexin, orientin, and cucurbitacins, which help treat under eye dark circles.
4. Cold milk
What you need
– A bowl of cold milk
– A cotton ball
What you need to do
– Take the cotton ball and dip it in the bowl of cold milk.
– Now, place the cotton ball on your eyes, making sure it covers the affected area completely.
– Keep it on for about 15 minutes, after which you can wash off with regular water.
How often you need to do this
Once every day for two weeks.
Why this works
Milk contains lactic acid that has shown to improve the smoothness, thickness, and firmness of the skin. This mild acid also diminishes fine lines and wrinkles.
5. Rose water
What you need
– Rose water
– Cotton balls
What you need to do
– Take two cotton balls and soak them in rose water.
– Place them under your eyes and leave them on for 15 minutes.
– Wash off with cold water.
How often you need to do this
Do this daily for four weeks for best results.

Rose water has antioxidant properties that help in strengthening the skin cells and rejuvenating the skin, thus helping you in getting rid of the ugly dark circles.
